• How does devoting ourselves to prayer (v.2) draw us closer to God through Jesus? What do passages like John 15 teach about abiding in Christ through prayer?
• When we stay alert in prayer with thanksgiving (v.2), how does this reflect an attitude of gratitude for what Christ has done? What does 1 Thessalonians 5:18 say about continuing in an attitude of gratitude?
• How can praying for opportunities to share the Gospel (v.3) help motivate us to boldly proclaim Christ knowing that He empowered the early church through the Spirit’s work?

The Gospel

The Gospel is the heart of hope. As Pastor David told us, there is a hope within us because of who Jesus is and what He has done. Specifically:

• Jesus rescues us from the domain of darkness and transfers us into His kingdom of light (Colossians 1:13). We are saved from sin and its power through what He has accomplished.
• Christ died on the cross to bear the penalty for our sins (1 Corinthians 15:3). He offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for all who would believe.
• He was buried, showing us that He actually died and that His death was a complete payment for sin (1 Corinthians 15:4).
• But death could not contain Him – Christ was raised from the dead on the third day, showing His victory over sin and death.
• It is through faith alone in Christ alone – resting in Him and what He did on the cross – that we can be saved. Our salvation relies completely on Christ and not on our own works or merit (Ephesians 2:8-9).

This good news transforms us, givies us hope and purpose, as Pastor David says, to influence the world around us and point others to the only true hope found in Christ. The gospel is the message we are to proclaim to everyone who is “near us, but far from Him.”
